11 things about me…….

I love this challenge, set by an Angel & 2 Rainbows, Here are my answers to 11 questions about me. It’s actually trickier than it looks.

When and where did you meet your partner?

Wedding Photo CambridgeWow this seems like another lifetime ago. I was fresh out of university and ready for an adventure. I signed up to teach English as a foreign language and was placed at a language school in Ecuador. My boss who had recruited me was called Rolando.

First impressions weren’t great he really annoyed me on my first day by saying he didn’t think the students would understand my accent because it was too English.

A boozy night out, a year of teaching English, a few wrangling with the Home Office and their very unromantic immigration rules and the rest is history. We’ve been married for 10 years. Rolando reminds me every February that it must be true love because he hates the weather here.

What would you choose for your last meal?

Not very classy but a massive bacon cheese burger and fries with warm chocolate brownie and ice cream. With lots of cocktails.

What was the first single that you bought?

I think it was Sealed With a Kiss by Jason Donovan (cringe!).

If you could be reincarnated as any animal what would it be?

I’m tempted to say a sloth because of all of the sleeping they get to do – sleep being my most prized commodity at the moment.

Who is your celebrity looky-likey?

I’m not sure I really I look like anyone but one of my friends thinks I look like Sophie Ellis Bexter. Although very much shorter and not nearly as glamorous.

What was your most memorable holiday?

Humm tricky to say because they are so different pre or post kids. My most memorable holiday before children was going back packing with Rolando in Cuba. We both speak Spanish and rented rooms in people’s houses rather than stay in hotels. It is such a beautiful and fascinating country and so different to anywhere else I’ve ever been.

Post kids it’s the glamping trip in Norfolk we had last year. We stayed in the grounds of a stately Camping holiday 2014home and spent all of our days running about outside. The kids absolutely loved it especially the endless opportunities to get dirty.   I also felt a bit triumphant to go camping with the twins who were only under 2 at the time.

What is your favourite Disney film?

This is a tough one I love Disney movies. I’m going to go old school and say Cinderella I watched it recently with my daughter and we were totally entranced by it.

Spring, summer, autumn, winter?

Definitely summer – I love being able to decamp to the park or the garden with the kids with a picnic rug and snacks. Such an easy fun day out.

When was the last time that you cried?

I had a truly awful day a couple of weeks ago that reduced me to tears. We all had a horrible sickness bug (My epic bad day). Trying to look after the kids when feeling ill is just horrible.

What household chore do you most despise?

There are so many tasks I don’t enjoy, top of list is emptying the bin especially the nappy bin (with two boys still in nappies we generate a horrendous amount of rubbish).

Were you a rebel at high school or a goody two shoes?

My favourite ever school report quote was “Sarah is pleasant but giddy” which perfectly sums me up at school. I did do the work and was keen to do well in exams but I was always be messing and chatting with my best buddy.

  1. Thank you so much for the tag 🙂
I have already done this one, but I enjoyed reading your answers.
Sickness bugs are the work of the devil, I hate them. So I really empathise. I also hate empyting the nappy bin, although not as much as cleaning up the dog mess in the garden – ick!

  2. Wow what a great story about meeting your hubby. I’ve travelled a lot but never South or Central America so am very jealous. Thanks for taking the time to complete the questions. It was great to read them and I hope the boys aren’t in nappies for too much longer!

    1. Thank you – doing this made me feel all nostalgic reminiscing about being young and adventurous and falling in love!

  3. I love your blog Sarah as I think I told you Saturday night. It’s funny I was talking to my niece Claire Buchanan last night, she is a great fan of Rolando’s work and will employ him the future to do some work on a house she has renovated but is having to rent it out for a couple of years before she moves in. So when he gets a request for some work it’s because she’s seen it on my facebook page, although I think she is on his website. I was also saying I wondered how you met Rolando, so now I know, how romantic, it’s funny how lots of people marry someone they didn’t like very much when they first met, perhaps I’ll have to have a look at men I don’t like very much, not that I want to marry one again ;-] Look forward to seeing you again soon, did you know Katherine Pelly she was a graduate trainee at the Council wondered if it was when you were one. I see her occasionally and also went to her very posh wedding in Cambridge, we share a love of jiving (Ceroc) so that’s how I know her. Sandra

    1. Thank you Sandra, I’m having fun writing it. I noticed lots of likes on Rolando’s Facebook page from Claire. It’s funny how your first impressions of people can be so wrong – very happy I gave Rolando a second chance!
