I was nominated by Laura from Laura’s Lovely Blog for the Sisterhood of the World Blogger Award. Laura’s blog mixes family life, honest opinions with a generous sprinkling of gorgeous handbags. The award is passed from blogger to blogger as a way of getting to know make new blogger friends.
Why do you blog?
I’ve always been a bit of an oversharer! When I have a mishap my first instinct is to share it for comedy value. With three children there is something eventful happening all the time. My friends found my tales of chaos funny which gave me an idea of writing a blog. I’m happiest when I’m being creative and have always loved to write. I thought that blogging would be a creative outlet and a fun way to write on a regularly.
How did you come up with your blog name?
I wanted to have twins in the title as having twins makes our family a little bit different. But I also wanted the title to include all of the members of our family as we are very much a team of five working together.
Name 3 bloggers that inspire you?
I’m new to blogging so I’m discovering new blogs all the time – there are so many brilliant sites out there.
The blog that I’ve followed for the longest is GretchenRubin.com. I love Gretchen’s books (The Happiness Project, Happier at Home and Better Than Before). Her blog is like seeing the ideas in development.
I like to read Days in Bed by Angela. I found her writing very honest and heartfelt plus our daughters are a very similar age.
I always check out Helen at Wonderfully Average. We are both newbies to blogging, and started our blogs at a similar time and are both finding our writing groove. Plus her site looks gorgeous.
Which super hero would you be for a day?
I’d love to be able to fly so I’ll go for Wonder Woman. I can’t dive yet (due to take my practical test shortly) so I love the idea of being able to zoom about to where ever I need to get to. It would make the school and preschool runs a doddle plus we could fly above the clouds on horrible rainy days.
What is one of your favourite memories?
We went to stay in a cottage in the Lake District ever year when I was growing up until I was a teenager. I can clearly remember one evening sitting on the front step in the late sunshine looking out on the fields and mountains and just feeling so peaceful and happy. It is still a happy place in my mind and I still occasionally take a mental trip to “the cottage” if I want to feel calm and relaxed. I was really excited to go back to the Lake District with my own kids this summer it brought back so many memories and was like a trip back to the holidays of my childhood (Five Hit the Road and Going Off Plan in the Lakes).
What is your ultimate ambition?
Humm this is a tricky one………….. My ambitions have definitely changed over time. Success to me now is much less about having stuff and more about experiences and building memories.
There are a few alternative careers paths that I’d love to follow – to be a primary school teacher, a writer or to run a posh B&B. If money was no object I’d love to take a gown up gap year with my husband and take the kids on a crazy adventure around the world.
My ambition for my blog is simply for people to read and enjoy it and to develop my writing – it’s all about enjoying the process.
If you could go on holiday anywhere in the world where would you go?
I really want to go to the Galapagos Islands off the coast of Ecuador (my husband’s home country). There are a number of different islands to explore and their incredible wildlife inspired Charles Darwin to figure out his theory of evolution. I can’t wait to take the kids to see the giant turtles, marine iguanas, dolphins and seal lions. I’m going to wait a few years before we go, it will be a once in a lifetime trip and I want the kids to be old enough to remember it.
What would be your last meal on earth?
Not very classy but I’ve had a bacon cheese burger and fries, plus chocolate fudge brownie with ice cream washed down with prosecco.
If you won the lottery what would be the first thing that you would do?
I have a bit of a Right Move habit. I get property email alerts for everything that goes up for sale in my village. I always have an “if I won the lottery” house picked out. I’d love to pop into the local estate agent on Monday morning and buy my perfect home for cash.
What is your greatest achievement?
This is another really tricky one. Some time it feels like an achievement just to get through full on days with my kids especially when anyone is not feeling well.
I decided to run the London marathon to get in shape after having my first baby. I got a guaranteed charity place for Unicef and raised more than £2000 for their incredible Unite Against Aids Campaign. The money that I raised makes me prouder than the physical achievement of finishing the race. It was so much effort to reaching my fund raising target holding bake sales, doing street collections, selling baby equipment and collecting sponsorship. I’m as proud of my fundraising certificate as I am of my finishers medal.
