What’s cool if you’re 7

I thought I’d do a post inspired by things my daughter is really into at the moment. It might come in handy if you have a girl of a similar age to buy Christmas presents for.

Whats cool if you are 7

Shopkins

I must admit I don’t really get the Shopkins crazy but Sofia totally loves them. They are little plastic figures with cute faces that are all in the shape of food and food related items. You can buy 2 for £2.50 in a little plastic shopping basket. There are about 4 million to collect! Sofia is diligently ticking them off her chart. They make a good tidy your room bribe!

Little Mix

Sofia loves Little Mix. I think I’m a bit of a “Mixer” too – they haven’t released a single that I don’t like. I think they are quite kid friendly pop stars too, not too raunchy or in your face and no overly sexy lyrics that I feel uncomfortable trying to explain to a 7 year old!

Animal Jam

This is an online game where you create an animal character and do little puzzles and games plus explore lots of different animal theme worlds. It is made by National Geographic. It is pretty cute and I’m happy that it is safe. It is vaguely educational in that there are lots of animal facts intermingled in the games. Sofia would happily play this for hours (if I let her).

Secret Kingdom Books

These are top of Sofia’s reading list at the moment.  These are chapter books, written by Rosie Banks, about the adventures of 3 girls in various different magical worlds. I’m really happy that Sofia loves reading so much so any series of books that feeds her imagination and makes her want to read gets a big tick from me.

Google Earth

Sofia discovered Google Earth while doing a school project and she is fascinated by it. My husband is from Ecuador and I lived there for a year too. It was amazing to show her the house where we used to live and take a virtual walk around our old neighbourhood (made me feel a bit emotional!) We’ve also taken a little wander around the streets of Paris and “visited” the Eiffel Tower.

Electric Toothbrush (Decorate your own kids spin brush)

Getting Sofia to brush her teeth properly has always been a bit of an uphill battle. Sofia was tempted to try this electric tooth brush as she could customise it with stickers. She is a total convert and is now brushing her teeth much more thoroughly and enthusiastically. I can see the results plus I’m quite impressed that the stickers have stayed on too.

    1. I’m finding 7 an interesting age – Sofia is really clear what she thinks in baby-ish and wants to be grown up but she is still crazy about fairies and anything magical.

    1. I think they are great – may be some of their success is down to mums liking them as well as the kids!

    1. Thank you! I was thinking about doing one for my 3 year olds but their favourite things are putting things in the toilet and changing the temperature setting on the fridge! x

  1. It’s crazy how much things change over the years. I feel so out of the loop with all of these things although I guess in 5 years when Evie is here I’ll definitely be aware of all of these things too! 😀 xx

    1. I love finding a few things that Sofia loves that I remember from my childhood – Roald Dahl and Beatrix Potter books are favourites but then you get to discover loads of new stuff too.

    1. I love how you get to know what is cool at each age – I’m kind of loving a lot of what Sofia likes. I have a feeling Sofia might get a few Shopkins for Christmas.

  2. Hi, thanks for a great list! My eldest daughter’s 7 too and loves reading so I’ll look out for the Secret Kingdom books. Think she might enjoy Shopkins too. I’ve also been meaning to get her an electric toothbrush as I also worry about her not brushing her teeth properly. Such a good idea to put stickers on it. We also have twins (a boy and girl) who will be 1 soon so I’m so glad to have found your blog, especially as I’m a newbie at this!

    1. Such a good name of your blog – it is quite an experience to go from one child to three it definitely has its unique joys and challenges. I found the twins reaching age 1 was quite an achievement. Glad you like the blog, it’s quite new too (started in August) feel like I’m still learning.
